DOBSON — LeeAnn N. Stokes has been hired as the Surry County Economic Development Partnership’s new vice president.

Todd Tucker, president of EDP, made the announcement Friday.

“We are pleased LeeAnn will join our efforts to improve the economy in Surry County,” said Tucker in a press release. “I believe that her various work experiences and personality will be a good fit for our organization. She has a strong desire to work with the existing businesses and industries that we have here in Surry County.”

The new vice president will begin working for the EDP on July 28.

“I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to work with the SCEDP in building relationships that will ensure Surry County remains a vibrant and growing area for its people,” Stokes said in the release.

Stokes has worked for Insteel Industries in Mount Airy and SIS, Inc. in Winston-Salem. She also started and owned her own business and has a real estate broker’s license. Stokes has been employed with Frontier Natural Gas in Elkin as a sales representative for Surry and surrounding counties since 2007.

Stokes attended Kings College and High Point University with a focus in business administration, marketing and sales. She lives in Surry County with her husband, Charles, and son, Landon Holmes. She has been a lifelong resident of the county.

She is replacing former vice president Jan Critz, who announced in May that she would be leaving the EDP to work for the North Carolina Department of Commerce as an economic developer. Critz worked for the EDP first for a four-year stretch, then came back to work there for two more years. She began her new job on June 1.
