Press Release – Surry County EDP Hires new Industry Initiatives Director

The Surry County Economic Development Partnership is excited to announce the hiring of our new Industry Initiatives Director – Catrina Alexander! Catrina will be joining the EDP on July 24th, 2023.

The Surry EDP is excited to bring a dedicated public service professional into the organization. Peter Pequeno, Surry EDP Board Chairman, said that “Catrina’s passion for the community, professional background, and connections to employers and education initiatives made her the logical fit as our Director of Industry Initiatives.” Her role will serve our existing businesses and industry with dedicated outreach, resources, and events. The Surry EDP looks forward to utilizing Catrina’s talents, connections, and passion to better serve Surry County’s business community.

A native of Sarasota, Florida, Catrina moved to North Carolina to pursue higher education at Western Carolina University, graduating in 1991. Catrina began her public service career with Surry County, serving in a variety of roles for 12 years. Her work with Surry County was followed by work with Mount Airy’s Parks and Recreation Department. In 2018, she joined Mount Airy City Schools and became a certified Career Development Coordinator. Her efforts at MAHS included establishing connections between students and local businesses. As a result of her dedication to public service, Catrina was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in June of 2023.

Catrina Alexander shared that she is “thrilled to continue serving business and industry in Surry County and to live and work in a region where relationships matter. I am so fortunate to have worked with amazing teams over the years and I know this venture will be no different.” Alexander continued, “Our communities have so much to offer, both to employers and residents. I am grateful that both of my adult children have made their homes here. Surry County is an incredible place to visit, live, work, play, and own a business.”

The Surry County EDP is a public/private non-profit organization dedicated to serving the businesses and residents of Surry County and has been doing so since 1995.
