The Surry County Economic Development Foundation is proud to announce the acquisition of nearly 30 acres in Dobson for the purposes of industrial/commercial development. The property, previously owned by the Shelton Companies, is located at the corner of Twin Oaks and Zephyr Roads, less than a quarter mile from Interstate 77. The site will now be known as Twin Oaks Business Park and will be developed into a mix of commercial and light industrial uses, with the goal of new jobs and investment to be located at the site.
Leslie Schlender, Surry County EDF Chair, stated that “this step is one of many more to come in Surry County’s efforts to provide an inventory of quality industrial product for our existing and potential new employers. We have continued to hear from employers of the need for growth and Twin Oaks Business Park will allow for this, and potential new business recruitment, to occur for Dobson and our entire Surry County area. Surry County EDF would like to thank the Shelton family, Surry-Yadkin Electric, and the Town of Dobson for their integral influences in this acquisition. Surry is fortunate in that all our towns and communities work together towards our business support and recruitment goals.”
Site development will begin with preliminary due diligence collection. This step will ensure the EDF develops the property responsibly and understands all development conditions before proceeding. Funding for site due diligence has been provided in partnership with the North Carolina Electric Cooperatives and Surry-Yadkin EMC, allocating $25,000 to the EDF to collect a Phase 1 Environmental Analysis, Geotechnical Study, Wetlands Study, Cultural and T&E Report, JD Verification, and preliminary site development plans.
“Surry-Yadkin EMC is excited about the acquisition of this new industrial site for Surry County. North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives and Surry-Yadkin EMC are honored to have been part of the process for this project,” said Travis Bode, manager of Economic Development for Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation. “New industrial sites are in high demand and filling that gap in Surry County is a vision and focus for leaders like Blake Moyer and Jeff Sedlacek. Surry-Yadkin EMC is very excited to have been able to support the project and partner with the Shelton Family, Surry County EDF and the Town of Dobson. We look forward to the future jobs and economic boost this will bring to our community.”
On behalf of the Town of Dobson: “We would like to express our appreciation to the Economic Development Foundation, Surry Yadkin Electric, North Carolina Electric Cooperatives, and the Shelton family for the acquisition and investment of Twin Oaks Business Park. Twin Oaks will be the first business park in the Town of Dobson and will be integral to the growth here in Dobson and Surry County as we continue to identify sites for businesses to locate and expand. This acquisition showcases partnerships and collaboration across sectors allowing for continued growth, and we look forward to seeing this project come to fruition in Dobson.”
