Surry County is a place where learning begins early and lasts a lifetime. Our schools are more than classrooms — they’re the foundation of our community’s success. With excellent public school systems, advanced career and technical education, and partnerships that connect students directly to local industries, Surry County offers one of the strongest educational infrastructures in Northwest North Carolina.

Surry County K–12 Schools

Surry County is home to a strong network of public schools dedicated to student success, innovation, and community connection. Our county includes three public school systems — Surry County Schools, Mount Airy City Schools, and Elkin City Schools — along with two charter academies that provide families with even more educational choice.

Within the Surry County Schools district alone, there are 19 schools, including three traditional high schools and the Surry Early College High School, which allows students to earn college credits while completing their diploma.

Students also have access to gain college credits through the Career & College Promise courses and the Surry Virtual Academy, creating flexible pathways for every learner to prepare for college, careers, and life after graduation.

Surry Community College

As a cornerstone of workforce and economic development, Surry Community College offers degree programs, certifications, and customized training that align with local industry needs. The college also supports entrepreneurs through its Small Business Center, helping small businesses and startups grow across the region.
