Who We Are
The Surry County Economic Development Partnership, Inc. (SCEDP) is a public-private, non-profit corporation chartered in 1995 to lead economic development efforts in Surry County and its municipalities — Dobson, Elkin, Mount Airy, and Pilot Mountain. Working alongside a network of partners, including local chambers of commerce, Surry Community College, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, and other state and local organizations, SCEDP is committed to growing opportunities for businesses and residents alike.
Our organization is guided by a 29-member board of directors representing both the public and private sectors, with a professional staff dedicated to advancing our county’s economic future.
Our Approach
At SCEDP, we know that thriving communities are built on strong partnerships, forward-thinking strategies, and a clear vision for the future. Our approach combines business expertise, community collaboration, and practical solutions to meet the needs of today while preparing for tomorrow.
We focus on three core areas of impact:
Building Talent
Surry County’s future depends on growing and retaining a strong workforce. We focus on strengthening the local talent pipeline through career awareness, training programs, and pathways that connect residents to opportunity. By supporting modern housing options and quality-of-life amenities, we help attract and keep talented individuals and families in our community.
Building Business
Thriving businesses are essential to a healthy local economy. We support existing employers, encourage entrepreneurship, and promote Surry County as a prime location for investment. Through ready-to-build sites, accessible resources, and regional and national marketing efforts, we help businesses grow, diversify, and succeed.
Leading Surry County
Progress requires strong leadership and collaboration. We bring together local officials, community partners, and business leaders to share insights that drive informed decisions. By maintaining transparency, building trust, and supporting long-term investment, we work to move Surry County forward and advance the goals of our strategic plan.
To support these focus areas, SCEDP provides hands-on expertise and resources including:
-
Real estate and site selection assistance
-
Grant and incentive program guidance
-
In-depth research, demographics, and data analysis
-
Workforce and training initiatives in partnership with local schools and colleges
This well-rounded approach ensures that Surry County’s economic growth is not only sustainable but also inclusive — creating opportunities for businesses, families, and communities to thrive together.
