We were honored to welcome the Thai Embassy to Surry County as part of our ongoing sister city relationship with Samut Songkhram Province, Thailand. This meaningful connection has deep historical roots—and a promising future.
In 1811, Chang and Eng Bunker were born in what was then Siam. Later known as the original Siamese Twins, they spent much of their lives here in Surry County. Their remarkable story has served as a bridge between our two regions, evolving into a formal sister city relationship between Mount Airy and Samut Songkhram Province.
The recent visit from the Thai Embassy served as a powerful reminder of the strength of international partnerships. The delegation toured local industries, engaged in cultural exchange, and participated in thoughtful discussions about future collaboration. From manufacturing and healthcare to tourism and education, we were proud to showcase the innovation, opportunity, and community spirit that define Surry County.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Thai Embassy team for taking the time to visit and for investing in this global connection. We look forward to continuing to grow together—building a future that honors our shared past and embraces the opportunities ahead!
