August 2026: The View from Surry

1 min read

August was a month of momentum across Surry County. From supporting local entrepreneurs and strengthening our workforce pipeline to celebrating community leadership and sharing the story of what makes Surry a great place to live, work, and build a future, there was plenty happening across the Surry County Economic Development Partnership.

This month, we welcomed a new Surry-Yadkin Works intern, connected local educators with career opportunities across the region, and launched another round of the Surry Summit Small Business Grant Programs in partnership with the Surry Community College Small Business Center. We also celebrated the publication of our 2026 Surry County Livability Magazine and unveiled our 2026 Annual Report, highlighting the people, partnerships, investments, and initiatives moving our community forward.

Our Annual Meeting gave us an opportunity to celebrate that progress together, including recognizing Surry County Manager Chris Knopf as a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his dedication to public service. Meanwhile, new Leadership Surry and Foothills Young Professionals activities are creating even more opportunities for connection, engagement, and leadership across the county.

And the momentum doesn’t stop here. With upcoming events like Manufacturing Week, the next Foothills Young Professionals gathering, and the September 18 deadline for Surry Summit grant applications, there is plenty more on the horizon.

Take a look at our August newsletter for the latest stories, opportunities, and updates from Surry County EDP.
